I think we’re finally hitting a groove. After a few virtual lessons. As well as, some very good hands on. I feel really good about a song that I’ve started working on. We’ve had about six that just sounded insane. I’ve played a few back and was frightened. There’s now a genre that I’ve always loved. Many people think that it’s rhythm and blues. I can sing it pretty well. However, that’s totally not the case…..
I was raise on Whitney Houston, Garth Brooks and James Brown. Along with a ton of gospel music. It was music videos that changed that. Whitney, always will be a major obsession of mine. I started watching a lot of Parliament and house videos. I would always hum along to a house track. You can just harmonize and make crazy sounds. These days… some of the music is atrocious. There’s mumbling all over the place. I’m definitely no Frank Sinatra or David Ruffin. I do know that, I can carry a tune.
I started playing around with some funk beats. That led to me mixing a house beat with it. A huge rush began to flow. The words are slowly coming together. This is pretty freaking gnarly! My friend is helping me out with this. He’s walking me through the legal stuff. I’m definitely going to take my time with this. The beat is giving me Masters At Work and Groove Armada. I walked out of the room. I walked back in and the beat sounds great! I gave myself a pat on the back and we’re going somewhere.
It’s a funk, house and soul kind of vibe. I’ll definitely be posting snippets here and there. Shout out to James, Sean and Mark.
